Written for the 1945 picture Love Letters, starring Joseph Cotten and Jennifer Jones, this song had to wait 17 years before it became a real hit. Then the miracle was performed by a young and virtually unknown singer, Ketty Lester, who had been making a quick climb from San Francisco's Purple Onion nightclub to stardom in a New York revival of Cabin in the Sky. Her recording of "Love Letters" became a million-seller. Among Victor Young's other song triumphs are "Sweet Sue--Just You," "Stella by Starlight," "My Foolish Heart" and the wistful "Around the World," which was the theme for the Mike Todd cinematic extravaganza Around the World in 80 Days.
